The 9th Annual Loma Linda Workshop

The Ninth Annual Loma Linda Workshop on Particle Imaging and Radiation Treatment Planning took place from July 31 to August 2, 2023. The workshop was in person with an option to follow the event online via Zoom.

We had encouraged you to come in person to Loma Linda this year and we are glad that many of you have reacted positively to this.

Scope

The summer workshops at Loma Linda University started in 2015 as interdisciplinary meetings that bring together applied mathematicians, computer scientists, medical physicists, radiobiologists, and radiation oncologists (still a minority). The workshops are organized in an informal setting: no workshop fees, no parallel sessions, and no strictly timed talks. The emphasis is on scientific exchange, education, and discussions. Several successful research projects among participants have resulted from these workshops and continue to the present day.

Topics

  • Mathematical/AI algorithms that can be used for particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or radiation imaging and therapy in general.
  • Large scale computing and big data management for particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or radiation imaging and therapy in general.
  • Optimization/superiorization methods for particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or radiation imaging and therapy in general.
  • Monte Carlo simulation techniques for modeling interactions at multiple scales for particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or radiation imaging and therapy in general.
  • Novel hardware for particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or radiation imaging and therapy in general.
  • Methods for motion management and adaptation in particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or radiation imaging and therapy in general.
  • Novel ways of enhancing particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or radiation imaging and therapy in general, including but not limited to gold nanoparticles and FLASH radiation therapy.
  • An update on new facilities for particle imaging and intensity modulated particle therapy or neutron capture therapy.
